A New Era for Footy in Fresno: Grand Opening of Two Futsal Courts at Calwa Park

For years, our community has dreamed of a dedicated space where the love of footy could thrive—where kids, families, and players of all ages could come together to play, learn, and grow. That dream has finally become a reality.

On Saturday, February 22nd, we proudly celebrate the grand opening of two brand-new futsal courts at Calwa Park! This momentous event is a testament to the power of community, perseverance, and our shared belief that soccer is more than just a game—it’s a vehicle for unity, opportunity, and positive change.

A Long Time in the Making

The journey to these courts wasn’t just about building a space to play. It was about advocacy, about giving our youth access to year-round, high-quality soccer experiences right in their own neighborhood. Love Peace Futbol has been at the forefront of this movement, pushing for the development of these futsal courts and ensuring that the voices of our players, coaches, and families were heard.

Thanks to Prop 68 State Water & Park Bond of 2018, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, and District capital reserves, this project includes:

• A Musco dual mini-pitch system with two lighted futsal fields

• SnapSports™ sport flooring, designed for safe and fast-paced 5-a-side play

• An inclusive space for players of all ages and skill levels

This project isn’t just about soccer—it’s about community development. It’s about providing safe spaces for youth, fostering healthy lifestyles, and creating opportunities for players to hone their skills and develop their passion for the game.

 Event Itinerary

9:00 AM – Opening Ceremony

• Words from our Board President and local dignitaries

• Reflections on the journey to bring these courts to life

9:45 AM – Ribbon Cutting & First Exhibition Match

• Staff vs. Board kicks off the first-ever game on the new courts

10:00 AM – Youth Exhibition Games Begin

• 20-minute matches every half-hour featuring:

• U-8, U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16, and U-19 divisions

• Local high school teams

1:00 PM – Event Conclusion

1:30 PM –  3:30 PM Love Peace & Futbol Private Pickup

Throughout the event, there will be opportunities to meet fellow community members, talk with local leaders, and witness the impact of this investment in our youth firsthand.
